On Via Cesia, after passing the beautiful Palazzo Benedettoni, you will find the Fontana di Scannabecco, named after the podestà who had it built in 1241. It consists of four basins adorned with eight slender arches, which rest on seven columns with finely decorated capitals, thus creating a delightful portico. The water, which came through an underground conduit from Piazza Grande, was used to water the horses assigned to citizens who would fight as knights.
