"I was looking for an escape from the city, from the ruins of an alienating urban life. I wanted to glide over a field of flowers instead of a sea of frantic people. I wanted to rediscover an ancient civilization, to hope to find roots, customs, and traditions that were more balanced, healthier, more human, more normal, more natural. I wanted to feel life, to reclaim every value, every taste and scent. I wanted to isolate myself, but not entirely—I still wanted to live in a small social context, a village.
Italy is still rich with these kinds of places, though they are gradually disappearing, or at least some are trying to make that happen. Less than 150 kilometers away, I found myself in a place with unique geological, historical, and urban characteristics. We are in the heart of Italy and its history; you can feel the Etruscan and later Roman influences, but especially the distinctly medieval character. For city dwellers, 'medieval' often means backwardness, but history (and life itself) is cyclical—there is no true evolution, only transformation, or rather adaptation. Facts and history themselves prove this.
The pace here is slow, very slow. Everything here is subtle, nothing in excess. Silence is almost regal, even in the historic center, despite a few thousand residents and a modest flow of tourists. Everything seems to work, everything essential is here… exactly what I was looking for.
Life in Todi is a bucolic up-and-down from the hill where it’s located; you descend to do errands and shop, and you ascend to think and enjoy. But it’s this journey that makes it extraordinary, and you’ll understand why when you make it, breathing in its beauty at every step. The landscapes, which seem to gather all of nature, will overwhelm you entirely, and you will finally feel part of them in perfect harmony. I believe this is one of the few places where a town feels like living in the countryside, and the countryside feels like living in town.
This platform on the web aims to offer you every useful piece of information for staying or investing here, to point out the best places, and to help you know and enjoy a world that still exists in its intrinsic beauty. I will not hesitate to also point out what does not work, if any."
